Colour, rhythm and presence
Caroline Rennequin, born in 1970, lives and works in Paris.
A graduate of École Estienne (1988), Duperré (1990) and Les Arts Décoratifs (1993), she now works as a set designer for fashion and luxury brands.
She has been Artistic Director for Jérôme Dreyfuss since 2007, after working for Isabel Marant (1992–1998) and Annick Goutal (1998–2007); she designs all the décor for the brand's shop windows and stores, sculptures, furniture, paintings and wall drawings. From 2006 to 2016 she also taught at the Atelier de Sèvres, a preparatory school for the international Beaux-Arts.
Alongside this professional work, she pursues a personal multidisciplinary practice in which questions of otherness, intimacy and femininity hold a central place, alongside the relationships between craft, popular culture, non-Western art and contemporary art. Her gouaches and abstract compositions are built up in layers, gestures and colours: the floral, vegetal or organic forms become free presences, decorative, sensitive and deeply contemporary.
In 2020 she completed That's All Folks!, a series of 301 gouaches on paper around the universal motif of the flower, a long-form work that condenses her relationship to colour, rhythm and repetition.
She has exhibited at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris (Circuit céramique, 2010), at Deyrolle on rue du Bac (2014), at the Danysz gallery (Le Dessin sous toutes ses formes, 2016), at the Biennale de Paname (2018 and 2019), and presented a solo show at the Jean Fournier gallery in Paris in 2022.
Presented at Noran Gallery with the exhibition Palms, Phoenix, her painting dialogues with the light of Marrakech, the materials of the gallery and the energy of the place.
