"Made Of Light"
Exhibition by Benjamin Pelletier in tribute to his father, with unique works originally created by Georges Pelletier in the 1960s and produced today by Benjamin. Opening 3 April 2026 at Galeria Tambien.
A French ceramic studio, Benjamin & Georges Pelletier share a single language where ceramics become sculpture, light and interior architecture. Born in 1938 in Brussels, Georges Pelletier founded the studio; his son Benjamin carries it forward today.
Georges Pelletier was a French ceramic artist born on 9 October 1938 in Brussels, in the municipality of Schaerbeek. He began his ceramic training at the age of twelve at the École du Pioulier in Vence, founded by Célestin Freinet, where the apprenticeship belonged to a free and modern vision of art for its time.
In 1953, at fifteen, he arrived in Paris. He discovered exhibitions, museums and galleries. Between 1954 and 1956 he trained in drawing at the Académie Charpentier and prepared the entrance exam for the École des métiers d'art, which he joined in 1955. Curious, he took in the advice of older classmates and occasionally went to Fernand Léger's studio, where he showed his work to the head of atelier.
His training continued at the workshop of Claude Pantzer, where Charlotte Perriand came to select ceramics for her projects. During school holidays he joined the Poteries d'Accolay, where he created successful new models and met the ceramist Raphaël Giarusso, with whom he later shared a workshop for a year. There he refined a personal vocabulary: ceramics is not only an object, but a material able to dialogue with space.
In 1961, Georges Pelletier opened his first Paris workshop. Spotted by Roche Bobois, he developed lighting, sculptures, lamps and unique pieces that brought ceramics into the language of interior architecture, supplying the Bobois lighting collections from 1961 to 1973.
Wall lights, suns, mirrors, totems and sculptural objects became a vocabulary of their own. Decoration was never merely ornamental: it structured the object, accompanied its volume and gave each piece an almost architectural presence.
In 1973, Georges Pelletier moved south and set up a new workshop in Cannes, where he pursued his work with passion. His son Benjamin accompanied him in this work and received from him an exceptional artistic legacy.
After Georges Pelletier's passing on 12 February 2024, Benjamin continues to create in his father's continuity, producing pieces faithful to that language and editing unique works that had long remained unpublished. At Noran Gallery, this body of work is presented as a living transmission: a ceramic that keeps the memory of the workshop while continuing to inhabit contemporary interiors.
Georges Pelletier's work circulates between the studio, galleries and collectors' interiors. His pieces are shown in Ibiza at the Galeria Tambien, in Knokke-le-Zoute at Passe Simple Vintage Gallery, in New York and Los Angeles at the Studio Van Den Akker showrooms, and in Atlanta at The Drawing Room ATL.
The journey continues in Paris — including within Private Choice, among other collaborations —, in Gstaad, Shanghai, Brussels, and at the Consortium Museum in Dijon, where some works presented in 2016 entered the permanent collection. This recognition speaks to the strength of the Pelletier vocabulary: a ceramic that is at once sculpture, lighting, architectural object and domestic presence.
Georges Pelletier's work is presented in group exhibitions, galleries and permanent showrooms, with regular appearances in France, Europe, the United States and Asia.
